Remember there is no Pep Rally tomorrow!!! It is a regular day for us.

Also, please make sure your child is recording the times they read on the Reading Log.  That will be due

October 20th.

Our class is almost finished with our first novel, Because of Winn Dixie.  We have enjoyed this book and are looking forward to watching the movie in a couple of weeks.  Please ask your child to talk to you about the book and characters.

Students have been given a Reading Log (stapled in planners)  this week that will be due on October 20th, which is the end of the nine weeks.  They have the option of turning it in early and receiving a new log.

They are to record the time they read each day and have a parent sign the log.

When the log is complete, they are to return it to me and exchange for tickets.

Please encourage/remind your child to read as much as possible.  I know some days are busy, but it will greatly increase their vocabulary.  The vocabulary on the STAAR is difficult so they need to be prepared.

Thank you for your support at home!

We have almost made it through our second week of 4th grade!  We are working on expectations for classroom behaviors and learning routines.  The kids are doing a great job and adjusting well.

I have not started sending homework with students yet, so don’t panic.  The most important homework for Reading is to READ, READ, READ!  Read to your child, read with your child, have them read to their pets, their siblings, in the car, while you are cooking dinner, etc…

Have them read their library books, magazines, the newspaper, recipes, etc…

There is no homework I can send home that could take the place of just sitting down to read for 20 minutes each night.

Developing a love for reading is priceless.

Thank you for all your support and hard work at home.

Each week I will try to suggest a website to support our classwork.  This week we have visited

www.gigglepoetry.com.  Check it out!

We are off to a great start!  The students are settling in and working hard.  We will begin Reading Logs next week and no other homework as of yet.

Remember, this Friday is a Pep Rally day.  If you want to take your child to the Pep Rally, they must have a note from you.   This helps us get them to you quickly and safely!

Thanks for sharing your babies with me,

Remember we are going to the Splash Pad tomorrow at 11:00.  I still have students that have not returned permission slips and $1.00.  Please help them remember to have everything they need tomorrow:  sunscreen, lunch, money, towels, sunglasses, flip flops or water shoes, and dressed appropriately.  Girls need a one piece swimsuit with a t-shirt  as a cover or shorts and t-shirt.  There will be a concession stand open if they would like snacks.  We are praying for no rain so we can have a blast!

Wow!  STAAR is over!  The kids worked very hard both days and deserve a break, so we are having a

Read -in tomorrow.  They are allowed to bring a beach towel, small pillow, snack and lots of books to read.

We are going to relax and enjoy reading!

Next week we have 2 events that you should be aware of:

Wednesday, 4th grade will be participating in their Field Day!  Be sure your child dresses appropriately,

wears sunscreen, and is ready to have fun!

Friday, 4th grade will be traveling to the White Oak Splash Pad.  Once again, be sure your child dresses

appropriately and wears sunscreen.  There will be a note sent home about this trip.

I will be updated my blog with other activities as they happen.

Thank you,

Susan Wiley

One more week until the STAAR test!  This will be the last week for Reading homework and there will not be another Reading log sent home.

Please encourage your children to work hard on this last homework before the test next week.  They should be proving their answers, stopping to jot notes about what they are reading, and I encourage them to read the questions FIRST!  I am very confident they will do well.  They have worked hard and learned many strategies to help them survive the test.

Thank you parents for helping them along the way with their homework and reading logs…it does pay off.
